Not All Water Is Created Equal

Water, like air, is one of those abundant necessities that we never think too much about. The United States consumes nearly 346 million gallons of fresh water every day, while the average person uses about 80-100 gallons of water a day.So why is it we don’t give a second thought about a resource we consume endlessly? Water, the most important nutrient we can possibly put in our bodies is the one thing we should be paying attention to daily. We rarely consider its quality, where it’s coming from, or if it is the best water that we can be drinking. Considering our health, and ensuring we are nutrition conscious, many of us put forth a great deal of effort making sure our food is healthy, that we get the right vitamins and nutrients, and that we exercise. Some of us even try to eat organically, avoid unhealthy fats and sugars, and make sure to limit our intake of anything that would be perceived as unhealthy to our system. With the great lengths we go to in order to ensure our health, why is it that the most important and substantial substance we put in our body goes un-scrutinized?  Roughly 70% of our bodies are made up of water, yet we are clueless as to its quality and how it is affecting our overall health.

Here are the important things every person should know about water, and what you should consider before you take another giant gulp from that next glass of water…water that you may think is pure water.

  • Water covers 71% of the world’s surface, and is vital for all known forms of life. The United States National Research Council recommends (including food sources of water): 2.7 liters of water total for women and 3.7 liters for men daily.
  • Water consists of combined hydrogen and oxygen molecules. Dissolved chemicals and minerals can change the balance, altering the neutral state of water and making it more acidic…and thus extremely harmful to our systems. Consider the fact that water, in its most healthy state, has a ph of 7 (neutral ph).
  • According to the U.S. Government’s Water Science Glossary of Terms for schools, their definition of acid is a substance that has a pH of less than 7.  The pH of regular and diet sodas range from 2.47-3.35.  Battery acid has a pH of 1.0.  Pure water at room temperature has a pH of roughly 7.0.
  • Both tap water AND bottled water contain a host of different chemicals and minerals that cause the water you are drinking to be more acidic than pure h20 in its neutral and most healthy state.

Think about what happens to a swimming pool when we alter the pH level to a neutral level. The water becomes clear, and toxins and microorganism such as bacteria, yeast and funguses are not able to survive. With unbalanced water in our bodies, just imagine what could survive in our systems, inciting illness, poor health and disease.

If our bodies are made up of approximately 70% water, one can deduce that the quality of water we ingest determines the health of our entire system. When we take in water that is of a balanced pH, we are eliminating toxins from our body in the most natural and healthy way possible. Just think of all the expensive medicines, nutrition supplements and doctors appointments that could be eliminated if our health was improved simply by drinking better water!

Acidic waste is produced in our bodies through stress, bad eating, poor sleeping habits and lack of exercise. By ingesting balanced, non-acidic water, we help to counter the effects of these acids, and improve our overall health.  However, if we continue to drink water that is of an un-balanced pH we are actually increasing the problems that result from acid in our systems, possibly prompting new and unwanted health issues.

The Bottom Line

As a general population we eat and drink things that create acidity in our bodies every day.  The more acidic our bodies become, the more toxic our bodies become as well.  The body is then more open and susceptible to bacteria, viruses, and even cancerous cells.  The good news??…Cancer and other diseases cannot thrive in an alkaline environment!

If the facts in this article aren’t enough to cause you to at least question the water you are drinking, you might as well consider the other healthy choices you make a marginal effort in the grand scheme of things. It’s like attempting to run a race car on a bad tank of gas. You can make it look as shiny and new as possible, but the engine won’t ever perform at its optimal level if you’re not putting in the quality gas it needs.

Our bodies, our existence, nearly our entire being is water. There is no better time than now to start making the most important change your body needs. Improve the quality of water you ingest, and you will improve your health – period. All other health tips pale in comparison to the difference better water can make in your life. You are what you drink, eat and breath; so allow yourself to see the possibilities of a body in balance when the water you drink is pure, balanced h20.
